Isaias Solis
Isaias Solis, Senior Director of Programs, Erie Neighborhood House, possesses a combined 20 years of service in education, government, non-profit, public health and health center operations with proficiency in financial management, organizational leadership, fund development, and positive clinical operations and outcomes. Raised in Detroit, Michigan, he attended Cass Technical High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude, considering himself a proud product of the Detroit Public School system. Along with his mother and older sister, he migrated to the United States from Mexico City as a child and was undocumented for almost 9 years, some of them spent rising in the ranks in the non-profit and government sectors.
Isaias graduated from Michigan State University, James Madison College (Honors College) in 2005 with a degree in Social Relations & Policy and a specialization in Chicano/Latino Studies. Upon graduation, he completed 3 years of AmeriCorps service with Teach For America in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas where he taught middle and high school social studies and was bestowed the District Teacher of the Year Award in 2007. His team was instrumental in increasing Social Studies state assessment scores from 42% to 93% in 2 academic years and removing Sauceda Middle School from the Texas academically unacceptable schools list.
Upon graduating from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor with a Master of Social Work degree in 2009, he returned to the public sector holding senior management leadership positions as Director of District and School Partnerships with Teach For America, Director of Neighborhood and Agency Coordination Department, Federal Healthy Start Program Supervisor, and Community Health Center Supervisor with the Ingham County Health Department, Director of Programs with the Latin United Community Housing Association (LUCHA), and School Principal & Deputy Empowerment Zone Chief (Assistant Superintendent) with the South Bend Empowerment Zone. Isaias currently serves as the Senior Director of Programs at Erie Neighborhood House in Chicago, IL. He also recently completed a second master's degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
He is a lifelong member of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. which is the oldest Latino fraternity in existence. The son of a factory worker, his work can be summarized by his commitment to equity and ensuring that opportunity is afforded to members of our society who face systemic and institutional barriers to achieving self-sufficiency.
Isaias is the proud husband to Nicole and the father of five children, Brayden (12), Isabella (8), Elijah (6), Adalynne (5), and Laila (3). He enjoys a good restaurant, spending time on the beach, and grabbing a good book to read.
