Kenneth Alvarado
Kenneth Alvarado was born and raised in Chicago after his parents, Jorge and Sandra, migrated from Costa Rica in the 80s. In 1998, Jorge and Sandra started New Life Community Church on 27th and Lawndale, and since then, New Life has grown into 2 locations in the neighborhood which made way for New Life Centers. Ken was thoroughly mentored by his church and community leaders which destined his way into his love and passion for community involvement.
In turn, Ken ran soccer programs during college in the early 2000s and, through that relationship, was connected with the Chicago White Sox becoming the chaplain for the Spanish-speaking players. For 6 1⁄2 years, he led chapel for the White Sox and occasionally for the Cubs, while still connected and rooted in Little Village. After stepping down from chaplaincy, he continued serving the church and helping neighbors. As a result, all focus was towards his passion, local empowerment, and advocacy.
Ken worked for Chicago Public School for 9 years and decided to change careers to join New Life Centers. He has the privilege of serving alongside a group of amazing, dedicated individuals who are just as passionate about the Little Village community and its neighbors. As the Associate Director of Partner Engagement, he is honored to highlight all the amazing opportunities Little Village has to offer. He also links arms with other passionate, local organizations that serve to empower our youth and give voice to the residents. Ken is convicted and convinced that our community is a resilient powerhouse that illustrates togetherness. Ken is thankful to help carry the torch that lights the way for a brighter future.
