Martin Burciaga

Graphic Design Specialist, Cook County Government

A multidisciplinary leader with over 10 years of experience working for the public and private sector in creative, communications and management roles. Martin joined County Government in 2013, producing it’s in-house creative content and strategy for marketing, print and digital communications of programs for all Offices Under the President, Board of Commissioners, Forest Preserves, Cook County Health and the 11 independently elected offices of County government.

As a leader in the communications/graphic design space, a woefully underrepresented sector, Martin uses his unique lens and personal experience to shape narratives in government so that Latinos and all communities of color can truly be active participants in programs and policies made for them. Martin is intentional in his work, creating content that is inclusive and a reflection of our communities. Under his creative direction, the County ensured that communities, particularly the Hard-To-Count, were counted and had a voice in the 2020 Census. His work was recognized nationwide as some of the most iconic visuals used in the outreach efforts of the 2020 Census. Martin’s vision can be found in every major initiative at the County, from the logo of it’s annual Racial Equity Week to the full brand identity of it’s Project Rainbow.

Martin is a proud Latino, son of Mexican immigrants, born and raised in Chicago’s Little Village. A graduate of Chicago Public Schools, attending McCormick Elementary, Madero Middle School and Farragut Career Academy. A first-generation college graduate, Martin majored in Film and Television at Columbia College Chicago and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts - Visual Communications from the International Academy of Design & Technology. Interned with the Communications and Media Center team of the Illinois College of Optometry and Illinois Eye Institute. He is a proud member of Teamsters Local 700.
