Amaris Torres
In her current role, she manages the risk management and capital planning team. Her team leads multiple initiatives that assists cross-departmental teams in the planning and execution of an annual multi-million dollar infrastructure Safety Modernization Program (SMP) in the city of Chicago. SMP is focused on upgrading our natural gas delivery system to ensure safe and reliable natural gas services to the residents and businesses in the city of Chicago. Prior to her role as the Capital Planning Supervisor, she worked as a Senior Analyst, leading various initiatives for process improvement and designing and testing a multi-million dollar SAP project which was responsible for overseeing the upgrade of various SAP financial and business applications, SAP reports, and processes that were required to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the company’s financials.
While Amaris worked the majority of her career in the utility industry, she took a few years away from corporate to pursue volunteer work with The World Race where she backpacked to over 16 countries leading and mentoring teams as they assisted local non-profits in various projects for their communities. In 2015, she worked at Bibles For The World (BFTW) in Colorado Springs, CO where she worked as the Special Projects Coordinator. Her role was to mobilize doctors in the hills of Northeast India for free medical camps and also travelled with sponsor parents to meet their sponsor children. After 1.5 years of working for BFTW, she decided to move back to the Midwest to be closer to family and continue her career in the utility industry at Peoples Gas. She makes it a priority to take shorter stints of time away from work to do international volunteer work.
In 2021, she was elected to be the co-chair of Listo!+ (Latino-Inspired Support for Talent and Outreach) and in 2024 she became chair which is the Latino employee resource group at Peoples Gas. She is a member of various committees and in her spare time she loves spending time with family and giving back to the Chicago Community.
