Edwin Ortiz Reyes

Edwin Ortiz Reyes currently serves as the Senior Policy Analyst at the Chicago Department of Housing. At DOH Edwin oversees the research and development of innovative policies and programs to address Chicago’s affordable housing crisis and create an equitable city of choice.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Edwin has lived in the United States since 2012. He attended the University of Dayton where he received a bachelor’s degree with dual concentration in Political Science and Human Rights Studies, with minors in Economics and International Relations. After graduating from UD, Edwin spent four and a half years in Cincinnati, OH providing community based social services to immigrants in Southwest Ohio as the Lead Case Worker at Su Casa Hispanic Center. At Su Casa Edwin oversaw several of the agency’s city-wide program, including the MARCC ID program that provides a legally recognized city ID to immigrants who may not be eligible for a State ID.

Edwin relocated to Chicago in 2020, shortly before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since arriving in Chicago he has served at a number of policy organizations before joining the City, including working on the Community Science Organizing team at the Environmental Law and Policy Center and serving as the Housing Policy Analyst at the Latino Policy Forum.

In his free time Edwin enjoys reading and writing fantasy, going to baseball games, cooking, and playing games with friends. Edwin is a passionate fan of Dungeons and Dragons and will tell you all about the great personal benefits of pretending to slay monsters in a fantasy world.
