Alex Garcia

Controller, AIDS Foundation of Chicago

M. Alex Garcia, a life-long Chicagoan, is a Financial Controller for a non-profit organization leading the fight to create health equity and justice for people living with, and disproportionately impacted by HIV and AIDS. With over sixteen years of professional financial experience, Alex has helped dozens of organizations thrive by developing their financial structure and managing their financial forecasts.

Alex is also a social justice advocate. He founded and currently serves as the Chairperson for the Drivers’ License Reinstatement Expo (“DLRE”). The DLRE provides an opportunity for drivers with suspended or revoked drivers’ licenses to meet with free legal counsel and possibly qualify to have their license reinstated that same day. He’s also the Co-Chair of Fiesta del Sol, the largest Latino festival in the Midwest drawing millions of patrons since its inception 50 years ago. Besides providing food and entertainment, this multi-day festival also offers resources and
educational workshops for the community. In addition, Alex also serves as a Finance Committee member for his parish St. Pius V, and Board Member for Pilsen Neighbors Community Council.

He recently served as an Officer for the Local School Council and Parent Advisory Council of his son’s elementary school. When he’s not calculating finances or advocating for his community, Alex loves spending his time with his big Mexican family, and kayaking, hiking, or traveling with his son Sebastian and dog Frijol.
